How to Make Education Online More Effective

A new article by Jonathan Wainright, of FCG Consultancy, was published yesterday highlighting certain methods to ensure that modern e-learning is operated and works as effectively as possible. For many years writers have been striving to understand how online courses can achieve what they set out to do - to equal that of traditional courses in a virtual context. By comparing the writings of Leonard Presby (from William Paterson University) in 2001, and Wainright's article, how can education online be made more effective today?

First, it is important to note that Wainright's influence stems from questions posed by The Chartered Institute of Personnel Development. They found that of the UK organisations surveyed, they believe less than 25% of employees take up any eLearning opportunities offered to them. Whilst 95% of respondents believe that eLearning is most effective when combined with other forms of learning.

In 2001 Presby published his Seven Tips for Highly Effective Online Courses. His first point is echoed by Wainright today and is impressive for its simplicity: Choice, 'Students should be given choice as to how they learn, as long as they learn'. Wainright goes into slightly more depth. He states, 'it should be learner-centric, giving individuals control over their learning experience. eLearning should be flexible so that learners can choose when and how to engage with it. It should also accommodate individual learning needs and you must make sure it has visual impact.'

Presby's second point seems less important today but its subtext is still relevant. He highlights the need to keep compulsory reading up to date, and recognizes that text books can often be out of date. With the progressive importance of the internet and digital news media, it would seem today that its synchronization with online education would be more natural. Yet, of course only fully realized if Presby's last related idea is adhered to - that students should be tested on this most up to date information.

A specific modern idea that Wainright poses is the notion that the organization of the modern day online course should be as continually improved as the achievements of the students. This 'evolutionary stance' is important for the future of the course, and stimulates an equal - and close - interrelationship between student and institution.

Lastly, as if building upon Presby's tip that students should be offered the opportunity for virtual company tours (to satisfy their thirst to see how things work up close), Wainright recommends the inclusion of a learning portal. This can add an instant link to resources and discussion groups, as well as diagnostic elements for students (i.e. a learning pathway to track development), and a means for chatting, blogging, social networking and podcasting.

Distance Learning College - Your Vehicle to Success?

Distance learning college is a system created for people who are not in a position to be tied down to attending regular classes. Their circumstances, whatever it may be, do not allow traditional study methods, yet there is a need or desire to do further study. It could be due to qualification requirements for promotion, while still hanging on to the present job, or it could be due to a student loan not being available.

Distance learning college allows you to fit your studies into your own schedule, and not the other way around. The program allows you to accommodate your work schedule, your family life, and financial commitments, and still be able to study. You decide when you have time available, and how much work you can handle.

What you have to keep in mind, though, is that you will be required to put even more effort into your (already full) day. By the time you can eventually settle down to study, you may be past your prime for the day. You could also get up early, but for some that may be even harder. It's very easy to get caught up in your responsibilities towards your family, and unexpected (overtime) demands from your employer, causing you to fall behind.

Ultimately, though, the single biggest benefit afforded by distance learning college is the ability to earn while you learn. You will be able to improve on your qualifications while still paying the bills, and keeping the household running as usual.

Master's Degree Online and Education Alternatives

Since its inception, online education has gained a bit of a bad reputation. Many people simply don't understand how a person can gain an education over the internet that measures up to an education gained in the classroom. This has lead to a general lack of respect for those who've obtained a Master's degree online and education alternatives.

One of the biggest reasons for this lack of respect is at least partly due to the abundance of scandalous students who find ways to cheat their way through online courses and even pay people to do their assignments for them. There will always be 'bad eggs' among us that ruin experiences for people with genuine interest. Just because there are rotten people out there, it doesn't mean that a person can't get a great education online that is just as comprehensive as a traditional classroom education.

Let's take a look

Education should never be taken lightly, so if you've been thinking about furthering your education with an online program; it would be wise to do a bit of research first. Decide what sort of course would suit you best; whether or you would want the freedom to go at your own pace, or if you'd prefer a more structured approach. Once you know this, you can look for an accredited school offering online education programs.

Many students simply cannot afford the extremely high tuition, transportation, and supply costs involved in traditional universities, so they turn to internet programs to get their master's degree online and educational experience. With this option, they are free to take, or keep, a full time job while they also study. Since most online education programs give the student the freedom to study and complete their assignment at their leisure, there are also a lot of online students who happen to be parents and cannot afford the time to go back to school.

There are many different reasons why a person would seek a master's degree online and education programs with flexibility. I've already touched on a couple, but you don't have to be a single mother or financially less fortunate to take an online course. In fact, a lot of people have switched from their traditional classroom university education to online schools, because they simply do better when allowed to work at their own pace.

Those students who are more advanced than their class average can 'fast-track' their degree and not have to wait for the slower students to catch up before they move on to the next section of their course. On the side of the spectrum, a slower student may excel with online education because they can take all the time they need to fully understand the material, and not have to worry about missing deadlines or being unprepared for exams.

While other students still, simply don't learn well from lectures, visual learners tend to do better studying written material rather than listening to a professor drone on and on about the nature of the valence shells surrounding a hydrogen atom, for example. If you have tried college, or have wanted to advance your education but simply don't have the resources to go back to school, then a master's degree online and education alternatives may be worth investigating.

You can check out all the information you need for FREE and even apply for any online degree program you want. For example which schools to choose, requirements and how to apply Click Here for the information.

Colleges & Universities Provide the Steps to Higher Learning

Colleges and universities are educational institutions that provide knowledge and skills for higher learning. Students who are accepted to colleges and universities are those who have graduated from high school or those who have completed the requirements for a high school diploma equivalent. However, there are some courses in colleges and universities that may require taking courses from preparatory schools before getting accepted. On the other hand, there are also some institutions that will take in only a small percentage of applicants based on a series of tests and qualifications such as art and theater schools.

Colleges and universities are quite similar in meaning and origin, but it was only recently that differences between the two were identified. These include universities defined as educational institutions with more than one college and offering higher education such as graduate programs. Meanwhile, colleges are defined as institutions that offer short courses and two-year course diplomas aside from their four year undergraduate degrees. Some colleges that have crossed-over into the definition of a university have retained their names with the word "college" in them due to historical reasons. This helps them to stay popular with students who are about to consider going to their particular college.

The first university in history was the Shangyang Higher School in China which was established during the Yu period between 2257 and 2208 BC. Other ancient universities originating from different countries include:

  • Takshashila University in Taxila, Pakistan established in 7th century BC
  • Nalanda University in Bihar, India which was famous for its center of Buddhist scholarship was established in 5th century BC
  • Plato's Academy in Athens 387 BC, the first higher education institution in Europe
  • University of Salero in Italy 9th century
  • Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt circa 988

Most of the medieval universities in Europe were established under the guidance of the Catholic Church and were then known as cathedral schools or as "Studia Generali." These universities were educational institutions which provided education for priests, monks and other students from different parts of Europe during the 12th century.

Most colleges and universities are run by a board of trustees or directors and by a group of school administrators. They are often funded by the government, by donors or by the tuition fees paid by the students who attend them. Most of these schools are located in the local town or within cities that are close to other educational institutions. Students often have to undergo exams and submit requirements before getting accepted especially when applying for scholarships or if they come from other countries.

In the United States, where the first institutions of higher education were University of Oxford & the University of Cambridge, the terms college and university can be used interchangeably even though colleges may often refer to liberal arts colleges or those that offer vocational, business, engineering or technical courses. Both colleges and universities refer to any post-secondary undergraduate education and which are operated as public or private institutions.

Should You Consider Online College Courses?

Today, college students have more educational opportunities than students of past generations. College courses in the modern post-secondary educational setting can be taken either in the classroom or through online methods. These two types of classes can differ substantially in learning methods and hands-on training techniques, but both can still be effective and enjoyable.

On-campus courses allow students to physically learn in a classroom setting. A professor delivers live lectures that allow participants to ask questions, enjoy guest speakers, contribute to the discussion and debate topics amongst one another. For students who crave an "away from home" college experience, attending classroom lectures is ideal. Classroom lectures:

  • Allow students to ask questions
  • Give students ample opportunity to meet acquaintances and interact with one another
  • Provide hands-on learning
  • Allow you to establish a personal rapport with your instructor

Classroom courses are not ideal for everyone. Many adult learners prefer taking online classes that give them the freedom and flexibility to choose which days of the week and hours of the day to participate in lessons and lectures. For working parents or full-time employees, finding the time to attend classroom lectures can be extremely challenging. Online classes provide the convenience of being able to absorb knowledge in the comfort of your own home, on your own computer. You only need your computer, an Internet connection and a course textbook.

Many students also prefer online career training because it can be more affordable. The classes can often cost less per credit. You will also save money by not having to pay campus living expenses or the gas money it would cost you to drive back and forth to school.

If you are a parent or work full-time or part-time, taking online courses may be the ideal choice for you. Online education offers the convenience of choosing when you want to learn. You do not have to leave your home and you can work at your own pace. Online courses:

  • Allow you to learn at your own, personal rate
  • Let you set up your own schedule - you can complete your work in small time increments or in one longer period of time
  • Allow you to acquire knowledge in your own home
  • Offer convenience for working parents or full-time employees
  • Let you choose when you want to participate in lessons

Many people dislike online courses solely because you cannot interact with other students or your professor. You can still engage in conversations with other class participants online, but you do not have the convenience of being able to ask your professor immediate questions. You can e-mail your instructor with any inquiries that you may have, but it may take some time for him or her to respond. However, there are often online classroom chats that allow you to speak with your fellow students about any material that may seem confusing to you.

Campus classroom training and online courses are both effective methods of learning. They are both substantially different from one another and can accommodate a variety of busy lifestyles. Potomac College offers online training courses that allow students to learn through interactive methods in the convenience of their own homes.

Online Industry Association Classes and Ongoing Education

Need an industry degree or two to comply with regulations and on-going education? Well, you are not alone. In fact, in the last decade on-going education has increased in nearly every industry and it is required for those who wish to keep their licenses in full force.

Failure to complete your on-going education in many industries results in your license being yanked in your state or by the Federal Government. Some say this is a good thing to protect the integrity of the industry and consumer trust, others decry it as busy work hurting productivity and stifling efficiency.

No matter how you feel about, that is the way it is and many of these on-going education classes are not cheap either, some cost over $250 if you include the mandatory testing that is required a test facility to prevent cheating, yes cheating, just like in school.

However, many companies off online classes, where you forgo the binder and text book and instead study online. An online on-going education course and some of these are only $35.00 which includes the certificate once you pass.

Why are online on-going education classes so inexpensive? Well, there is a lot of cost savings for the school if they can administer it all online, and they also save printing costs to put the binder together and the class materials. Plus they save some $10-15 in postage as well. See the difference from the schools point of view.

Many would call this a win/win situation, so if you have required on-going education requirements to keep your state license, then be sure to ask about the online programs and discounts. You'll be glad you did.

Online Degrees - Education at Your Own Pace

How do you get ahead in a competitive world? In today's economy the high paying jobs that were once plentiful are getting much harder to find. The best way to increase your chances of landing one of these prized jobs is to set yourself apart from the crowd. The very best way to do that is by exploring your opportunities to get an online degree.

Even 30 years ago the idea of receiving a higher education from the comfort of your own home was unimaginable. Anyone wanted to advance their education and career had to make the time somehow to hold down a job to pay the bills, run the kids to soccer practice and attend classes at their local university.

Someone who has just left high school and has a minimal amount of obligations is situated perfectly to attend a traditional campus setting and earn their degree. Those that may be a bit older and have a full life with spouses and children, jobs and mortgages, were once at a disadvantage.

Thankfully, those days are long gone. Anyone with access to a computer and who has the proper drive and motivation can enroll in one of the growing numbers of online universities. There are programs for nearly any degree or interest. Associate and Bachelor programs are plentiful and there are even a select few online institutions that offer Graduate Degrees. In the early days of online education many of the programs were not accredited making the degree far less valuable. Now, most of the online universities are accredited and even quite a few of the larger traditional campuses offer online courses.

For the potential online degree seeking student there have never been more choices in terms of field of study. Virtually any degree that can be obtained through traditional methods can now be earned at least partially online, if not entirely. Some programs may require travel to the actual campus a few times over the course of study, but many do not have this requirement.

A great way to get started in earning your online degree is to research online universities and discover the degree programs that are available. Pick a half dozen or so online universities that seem to fit what you are looking for. Spend time looking at every page on their web site. Look at entrance requirements and workload, available financing, and any testimonials that may be contained on the site. Once you have narrowed your selections to the top two or three, call them and discuss any questions you may have, as well as any concerns. Making the decision to go back to school can be uncomfortable for some adult learners and the school you select should be empathetic to any concerns you have.

As you are researching schools, it's important to discover what kind of delivery methods are in use. Some methods of delivery can require quite a bit of knowledge and comfort with computers and sometimes with specific software programs. Be sure to select a program that is in line with your comfort level for using a computer.

An investment in your education is always a wise investment. Yes, always. The time and the sacrifices you make to obtain your online degree will come back to you in many ways. Discover a good online degree program and you may discover things about yourself that you never thought were possible.

Online Driver's Education

What Is the Purpose of Online Driver's Education?

Online driver's education imparts learning skills and fundamental concepts pertaining to driving test so as to prepare distance learners for a driver's license exam, irrespective of age-group. The driver's education imparted from the online mechanism is certainly a boon to all those who, without moving to the desired location can reap the benefits for learning the basics and concepts related to driving in order to obtain a valid driving license.

How is Online Driver's Education Beneficial to a Person?

Online driver's education programs are beneficial to online student in numerous ways. Some of them are:

1. Online driver's education programs are far more affordable and it usually takes a person to shell around $40 to get enrolled in an online driver's education program, which is definitely a bargain!

2. The learning methodology and virtual classroom environment is easy to understand and all assistance is provided to let students get familiarized with the concepts of online education and online learning tools.

3. The students can access their course contents from any of the preferred locations all over the world and can complete the online education program for driving skills without disturbing their other personal and/or professional commitments.

4. The students can fix their own time schedules and learning hours, which makes online driver's education convenient and flexible.

5. The virtual classroom lends an impersonal impression and a student is an independent learner in the long run, since it has little interface to offer between a student and trainers. It also offers less inter-linking and inter-personal interaction and interface between virtual class-fellows, which wards off any chances of distractions.

6. A student can attend virtual classroom sessions, discussions groups, newsgroups, forums and numerous other interactive activities at his/her own discretion and it's up to a student to complete the pending online workbook assignment and get it checked and assessed by teacher via online learning management systems.

7. All that is needed in this online program is an internet connection and a flair for understanding and learning new and innovative concepts with the help of online learning tools and materials like audio/video/web conferencing, webinars, whiteboards, chats, forums, discussion groups, e-mails etc.

What Is the Selection Criteria for Online Driver's Education Program?

The online driver's education program is a student-centric and effective learning based program, which helps a student understand the fundamental concepts of driving so as to appear for the driving test and obtain a legal driving license. Distance learners must verify the accreditation of the online education program as well as the online driving school they have applied at for their online driver's education. Since online training and distance learning education may have some important formalities on part of students before getting started, a student must verify all information and formalities pertaining to a selected course.

What is "Green Driver's Ed"?

Green Driver's Ed is an acronym for Green Driver's Education with a special emphasis on environment. This is a new notion being introduced within the driving school community which includes environmental consciousness as a fundamental part of conventional driver's education curriculum. It adds sense to a person in terms of community welfare and environmental awareness when compared with a traditional learning course for driving.

Web-Based Learning Can Address Teen Sleep Issues

Teenagers heading back to traditional brick-and-mortar schools are likely to struggle with sleep issues as they attempt to adjust their body clocks from a summer schedule, but those enrolled in the increasing number of Web-based learning programs may not face this difficulty. The majority of current Web-based learning programs, are asynchronous, meaning that the teacher and the students are not necessarily online at the same time. That means teenagers can sleep in and still put in a full day of classroom work via a Web-based learning program.

Capitalizes on Teen Body Rhythms

Far from enabling laziness, Web-based learning programs actually can enable teens to study when they are most alert and to get the increased sleep adolescents need. According to the Nemours Foundation, a national non-profit focused on children's health, part of adolescence is changing sleep patterns. A teenager's body has a natural inclination to go to sleep later and stay asleep longer. Most teens need 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night, and not getting enough sleep can lead to short-term memory problems, decreased attentiveness, inconsistent performance, and slower response times. Web-based learning programs can allow teens to take their classes when they are rested and able to focus.

Ideal for Technology-Savvy Teens

Today's teenagers are at home in a technology rich environment. From cell phones to video games to digital music players to computers, technology is part of their lives. Listening to music on an MP3 player while reading class notes on the computer and sending a text message to a classmate may be perfectly natural for many teens and does not necessarily detract from their learning. Web-based learning programs both capitalize on teenagers' comfort with technology and help advance skills they will need in tomorrow's knowledge-based workplace. They promote time management, self discipline, and self-directed problem solving skills.

Interaction Takes Place in Web-based learning Programs

A common concern is that students enrolled in Web-based learning programs are isolated from their peers and don't receive adequate guidance from their teachers. Today's technology allows for ample communication between student and teacher, as well as among students. Email, dedicated chat rooms, discussion forums and other digital means provide mechanisms for communication in Web-based learning programs. A Web-based learning class may, for example, follow a syllabus, involve class interaction by way of a discussion forum, and provide for assignments to be emailed between teacher and student.

IQity, a company that has developed a learning management system specifically for grades 9-12, also offers Liveboard, technology through which students interact with the teacher and with other students in real-time through video-conferencing.

Susan Bond is a part of IQ-ity.com - provider of a top-rated Learning Management System for schools seeking to teach courses online. IQity's LMS includes an online study guide for the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT). Ohio teachers can add a product review of OGT practice tools and help other teachers.

Why to Go For Online Education?

Living in the world of interconnectivity, we can't overlook the significance of online education. Although we are moving away from traditional classroom system towards virtual studies, one can still think whether and we are blessed or cursed with cyber classrooms. In fact with few dark aspects, online learning has helped us to a favorable extent in seeking the varied level of education at a distance of a single click.

We see students take interest in online learning environment today. A current survey concluded that there are over 4.7 million students enrolled in online schools and universities, and the fortunate part is that number is growing at a greater pace of 30% per year. Despite the fact, there are many persuasive arguments for attending a classroom online.

The basic reason for which you may prefer a cyber classroom is the opportunity you can have to study anything anywhere. In online education, as the name suggests, you earn a degree or certification by attending a classroom located virtually in the internet cloud. You can argue that online learning is ideal for students who have trouble in learning in traditional classroom. Whether you are a shy person, have some learning disability or just don't have the same wavelength with traditional teaching styles, online learning offers you finest solution.

In many cases, students grumble about not being equally taken a part of the classroom. Online learning facilitates student-centered teaching approach and a student can excel by adopting his own way of learning that works, which may be learning visually learning by doing. Students are enabled with round the clock access to the course material. They can read and re-read the lectures, comments and explanation if missed out due to any reason.

Attending cyber classroom on the internet, research information and communication with other students can help much in producing educated as well as technology savvy students. The other benefit that a student and instructor can have is being more interconnected and easily approachable.

With the broad spectrum of content, students can have quick access to libraries and resources available on the internet to further their capacity in particular area of interest. These handy resources may not be available to most of students attending learning in traditional classrooms. Unlike the biased environment in traditional classroom, online learning increases student interaction and enables team learning. The central reason to online learning is folks are provided with diversity of course material due to no geographical barriers.

Although we can never eliminate the traditional classroom learning approach, it is very evident why a growing number of people are considering class in the cyber world. The reasons may be accessibility, flexibility or quality, all compelling and contributing to the attractiveness of this mode of learning.

There is No Rose Without a Thorn - Tips For Teachers to Improve Their Performance

Teaching, as we know, is a noble profession which requires a lot of dedication, patience, and creativity. Inasmuch as teaching is a developing art, and learning is a life-long process, teachers need to strive and toil in order to improve their performance. Additionally, they are obligated to devise new ways so as to remarkably perform their duties and leave a lasting impression on their students. In fact, what sets a teacher apart from others is his perseverance and determination to excel and surpass his colleagues. The role of teachers, in any society, cannot be underestimated; their contributions to the advance of our life are indispensable. Although teaching is substantially demanding, it is no doubt much more rewarding.

It is worth mentioning that education has undergone drastic changes over the past few decades. New approaches and techniques have been discovered and employed in this respect. Likewise, others have been attacked and rejected. As such, teachers need to be innovative to meet these challenges. Being a teacher does not mean the end of a long journey; it is only the beginning. It is an ongoing development. Most accomplished teachers did not become well- known over night; they sweated and struggled for many years. They have even made a lot of sacrifices to deserve this recognition. Teachers need to bear in mind that no one is above knowledge; there is always so much to learn.

In the light of the aforementioned reasons, teachers need to update their knowledge as often as possible to keep pace with the changes taking place in their major. In this article, I would like to propose and suggest some vital approaches for my fellow teachers to adopt. Firstly, teachers are expected to prepare their lesson well in advance so that they can be well prepared for any question they might be asked, otherwise students can give them hard times. They should spend more time knowing their materials using any beneficial sources such as books, dictionaries and the like. They need to make notes of the most important points to be used later on. Secondly, they should not hesitate to ask their senior colleagues any awkward questions they might encounter. They should not be ashamed of it, since the ultimate goal is to learn. Thirdly, teachers should make good use of the internet to locate any information needed. You will be surprised how fast and beneficial this source is; you can find any topic. All you have to do is to write key words and let the computer do the job. Even teachers of literature can find poems recorded by native speakers.

To conclude, teachers are invited to make use of any sources available. Good teachers are always learning as it is becoming more challenging and difficult to compete. All they have to do is to allocate some time to study, though it is tiring, but our dear students are worthy of our sacrifices and endeavors. So let us get started for it is never too late. And as they say, practice makes perfect.

With the advent of the Internet, its easier than ever to aspire to higher education. And this is particularly true for working or single mothers. For women who fall into these categories, time is an important factor, not to mention money. Online education is more cost effective, and it cuts down on time spent attending classes at a traditional university. In effect, it makes things a lot easier for moms who have little time to spare.

If you're a single mom or a working mom for that matter, keep in mind that its never too late to complete the education that you have always dreamed of. By continuing your higher education with an online degree, you might greatly improve your future as well as the future of your children.

Working single moms have more opportunities for e-learning so they can change their careers or advance in their current jobs. Is A Higher Education Really Worth The Money? Education is Outdated, Especially in Business

As a former financial broker and a graduate of an Accredited University, I look back on what exactly my education got me. It is important for you to understand that I worked very hard to graduate with honors and acquire the knowledge that I thought would make me rich. I even studied International Business in China, but the education lacked a sense of understanding how to create true wealth. I felt deceived when all I got was a very expensive piece of paper and a job that barely paid for the debt I'd piled on with the costs of college.

In this society we are conditioned to think that is okay to spend more than we make, and more importantly not invest in our future. When we are encouraged to invest, the returns balance the Interest on our current debts...if we're lucky. When an opportunity to supplement and someday replace an income that just no longer cuts it in this ever changing world, people view it as "risky".

So the question is, where is the real risk? The risk is in us relying on a system that is outdated and not self sustaining...AKA Pension plans, Social Security, Mutual Funds, etc. I don't know about you, but relying on outdated systems of security just don't seem to be that appealing anymore. An entrepreneurial spirit that harnesses the trends in the market will be the ones that benefit. Those that want to create their lives are grabbing a hold of opportunities that will create true wealth for their future.

Online Training Opportunities In The Mental Health Industry

This article is part four of a series of five exploring unique and noteworthy trends in the mental health profession. The article focuses on Web Seminars and Online Training trends that are penetrating the mental health marketplace. The purpose for examining all of these trends is to note business opportunities and competitive influences within the industry.

Online Training: A Unique Way to Promote Your Services

Looking for ways to share your expertise and promote your services beyond traditional training opportunities? E-learning is fast becoming a powerful medium for building credibility and expanding one's reach at a national and international level. Online learning has also become an important vehicle for employee assistance programs and other practitioners who are seeking a presence within the corporate world. It allows you the ability to offer significant value to employees and managers using a platform they are familiar and comfortable using.

You can post your coursework with any existing training platform or simply create your own personal online training platform. I have seen business savvy clinicians use this form of training as an extension of clinical services they offer other practitioners and potential clients. How can you possibly do this without paying a pretty penny? Easy! In today's world there are several free open source learning management systems available to you. These systems allow you to quickly and easily create your own e-learning courses and programs. If you would like to find out what those platforms are I suggest searching under "free open source e-learning platforms" and you will find what you need.

Professional associations have also gotten into the e-learning game and offer numerous courses for members. Take a look at the American Counseling Association website and you will see a series of online offerings for their members. Posting a course on a national association website is another powerful way to expand your reach and build credibility within the profession.

Web Seminars (Webinars)

At present, Oprah Winfrey is offering a free 10-week web seminar with spiritual guru and author Eckhart Tolle. The webinar is being held every Monday 9 EST for 10 weeks. What is important to note about this hallmark event, whether you are an Oprah fan or not, is the fact that together they are delivering an interactive educational program on a global scale. Participants enter a virtual learning environment where they can access workbooks and course material, post questions and view real time discussions and presentations by Eckhart Tolle. Not impressed so far? How about the fact that they have over 700,000 participants each week from 139 different countries!

This single event demonstrates the power of web seminars and is introducing a mass audience to this technology. No longer is it simply a tool for facilitating virtual business meetings. It has become an effective vehicle to communicate a message, to build awareness and buy in about a particular topic and to offer an interactive educational experience.

Web Seminars, as part of the rising social nature of the web, will become more and more prominent in our near future. Larger behavioral healthcare organizations and practitioners alike will want to keep an eye on this model and think about how it might be useful in the mental health profession.

The information provided in these articles should offer practitioners some insight into what may lie ahead in the future as both a challenge and opportunity. Online training and web seminars are two trends worth exploring further.

Education is the Key to Your Success

No matter what path you take in life there is always the necessity for the life sustaining component of an education. Education comes in many forms drilled down to two distinct types; the formal and the informal.

There is no point in getting out of bed in the morning if you don't learn something, no matter how old or how young, every single waking hour of our lives we are learning.

Never fool yourself that there is no possibility for an education when it is economically just not a viable option for you. There is a never ending supply of ways for you to create a formal education. Libraries are free and plentiful and a wonderful source of information. Join a library and search out information in reference to your subject of interest. Librarians are always willing to assist you if the whole area seems too daunting, many successful people in this world have no formal education, but armed with the personal desire to be successful and the will to win they have educated themselves to a level of expertise and success in many fields which they are able to select. During even the earliest years of our lives education and sustenance are the keys to our survival.

Numbers of the 'lucky' members of our society spend many years going through the formal educative processes, schooling us in all forms of communication. Speech, reading, writing, all sciences in their own area of expertise, why is it that we reach a stage in our lives when we are apt to process some thoughts which are so completely negative, when in this age of knowledge the ability to acquire information is endless.

Personally I am of the opinion that it is never too late to learn and many life changing educative processes can begin at any age. It is a well known fact that there are a number of the so called privileged members of our society who have not been the recipients of a well paid formal education, but yet are listed among the most successful members of our so called civilized society. These people saw the opportunity of making the most of their lives and used every moment for the 'education' of themselves and now they are the employers of a very high percentage of our society and also employ many of the educated members of this world.

Never let an opportunity pass you by, make every post a winner, use every waking moment of every day and take your own life in your hands and educate yourself in some way each day. You should never let the sun set on a day when there has been nothing learned as each evening brings the end of a day never again to be lived.

Guide, Teach and Mentor with an Online Tutoring Business

Tutoring is a fast growing and extremely popular profession in the modern era. With students not receiving individual attention in school and working parents lacking the time to help their children with school work, more and more people now search for tutors.

Tutors are sought for in many areas, in which skills can be taught and acquired. For example in academic subjects such as math, languages & geometry, for sports such as tennis, swimming & baseball, for acquiring computer skills such as word processing, designing & programming or even for hobbies such as sewing, crafting or sculpting.

Tutoring to students is carried out in many ways. "In-home" tutoring is when the tutor visits the home of the student to offer his/her services while "at-my-place" tutoring is when the student visits the home of the tutor to obtain his/her services. Online tutoring and email tutoring is when the tutor and student conduct their lessons via the help of the internet. For online tutoring a specific time is set between the tutor and the student to carry out the lesson through instant messaging services such as Yahoo, AOL, MSN, etc. Email tutoring is when the tutor and the student rely on emails to perform their lessons. The advantage of online and email tutoring is that the tutor and the student need not be in the same city or country to carry out the studies and also the time and money spent on commuting is saved.

With the increase of demand for tutors, more and more people prefer to stay at home and start their own tutoring venture. The most essential qualifications that are required to become a tutor, with the exception of having an in-depth knowledge of the subject or subjects which you are going to teach are good communication skills, enduring patience and the ability to connect with your students. You should also posses the qualities of reliability and dependability. Sticking to the planned schedules with your students are very important since you are providing a valuable service.

Having your own online tutoring venture provides you with many advantages. For starters you would be working from home which in turn provides you with more time to spend with your family. Reduction of costs involved in commuting and of acquiring office attire is another advantage. In addition you would be having more flexibility. And above all you can have the satisfaction in providing an esteemed service to the society.

You can carry out this venture as a part time or full time occupation. Also the subjects and the number of subjects that you want to tutor, completely depends on you. When considering the subjects, it is important that you have a thorough understanding in that particular field. In the tutoring profession your potential students could vary from elementary to high school or even grown ups who require tutoring in specific areas such as the computer field or hobbies. The number of subjects that you wish to tutor depends on the amount of energy and time you can utilize for this venture.

As an independent tutor you would have an advantage over tutoring companies, since you would be providing one-to-one tutoring which most parents prefer for their children at a much friendlier rate.

Starting a tutoring business costs very little and it provides a steady source of income all year round. Your tutoring rates will depend on your experience, the demand for that specific subject and the market price. If you are new to this venture it is always better to charge less than the competitors till you are able to gain experience and prove your value in the field.

When launching your own online business, you should first determine the number of subjects you want to tutor and the age group you are focusing on. Depending on these factors you can concentrate on your target audience, how to approach them and your marketing strategy. Even though "word of mouth" is the biggest marketing tool in this profession, having a website is another significant way to market your online tutoring venture.

When conducting tutoring sessions, in order to make it as effective as possible you should prepare your sessions in advance, know your subject and any changes in the content, be professional and supportive of the student. The keys to succession in the online tutoring profession are being result oriented, establishing sound relationships with the students and their parents and providing an exceptional service.

Online LPN Degree - Truth or Scam?

Nursing school programs all over the country are turning away qualified students because of the nursing teacher shortage.

As a result, these days, more and more people are searching for an online LPN degree to get past those nursing school waiting lists.

Well, there's good news and there's bad news for those folks.

The fact is, there is no way to get your LPN degree online.

That is because during the Licensed Practical Nursing program, a lot of the learning is the hands on, practical stuff. LPNs interact with patients while being trained and observed by registered nurses known as proctors. It is during the second year of learning that nurses learn the classes that they are able to take online. Those classes are more heavily focused on management and theory.

In fact, there are a lot of nursing skills that can only be learned by doing them, and practicing them on a real live person. The idea of a nurse who learned absolutely everything online, frankly, a scary one. And it would be quite unsafe.

There are, however, numerous LPN to RN online programs, paramedic to RN online programs, and even respiratory therapist to RN online programs. They are offered by private, expensive degree colleges but they are also becoming increasingly popular at community college because of the nursing shortage and the desperate need for registered nurses.

So it makes a lot of sense for an aspiring nurse to get a licensed practical nursing degree (or, in some states, what is called a licensed vocational nursing degree.) But it can't be done online.

However, the waiting lists for LPN schools are much shorter than those for traditional RN programs. And there are "career colleges" which, while more expensive than technical schools and vocational schools and community colleges, often have no waiting list at all. It is worth exploring those options, because one a student becomes a Licensed Practical Nurse, it is very simple to find a bridge program which will give them their degree as an RN.

But just remember, if you hear someone talking about an "online LPN degree" or "online LPN school" it's pie in the sky - because there truly is no such thing.

Don't keep waiting to fulfill your dream of becoming a nurse! Visit http://www.nursingschoolprograms.com to find the secrets to getting into nursing school - and getting your degree! faster than you ever thought possible!

Role Of Online Nursing Schools

A Nurse has one of the most important parts to play in the healthcare industry. There is no denying their dynamic role in clinics and hospitals both public and private. Therefore, the ever growing shortage of these vital constituents is being felt keenly. This huge shortage of nurses is being worked upon by nursing schools, hospitals and state and local governments. All these efforts are to a great extent failing and surprisingly enough not because of lack of aspiring candidates but because of one factor, which is restricted access to nursing schools. The traditional nursing schools don't have enough room for the huge number of interested candidates. An enormous number of waiting lists of 17,000 students to enter traditional nursing schools of California and 130,000 in other states prove the fact.

Where traditional schools are making all the efforts to counter this lack of space by opening larger training centers and hiring instructors, online nursing schools are proving to be viable option worldwide. Here, the nursing instructors dispense the much needed training and knowledge online. However clinical practice is still a hands-on course even in online nursing schools. Nevertheless, administrative procedures and theory are offered online by online nursing online schools thus easing traditional nursing schools' burden.

Not only basic education is offered at online nursing schools but also higher education can be pursued by current nurses seeking career advancements and specializations.

Completion of basic or advanced degree from one of the online nursing schools will earn you incentives as trained nurses. The salaries of nurses are high, as the demand of trained nurse is on the rise. The salary of full time registered nurses has seen a 32% hike as compared to previous year, it is now US$69,000.

By joining an online nursing school, you will become a part of healthcare industry which is serving the ailing humanity. Thus not only helping with the healing process but also leaving deep impressions on the lives of so many others. Online nursing schools offer you the fastest way of entering a promising career and financial stability.

The Reputation of Your College and its Importance

Not all colleges are created equal and, just as with people, every college earns a reputation, whether good, bad, or somewhere in between. Now consider that once you earn a degree from a college, its reputation will be associated with you for the rest of your life. Every employer will see the name of the college or university you attended on your resume. Consequently, below are a few reputation-related considerations you should weigh prior to making a commitment to attend.

Famous or Infamous

Is the name of your school instantly recognizable? If so, it is either famous or infamous. Of the two, being famous is the only one better than being unknown. If a college has a bad reputation, it may in fact reflect on you. Schools that are famous can be a huge benefit to graduates; one that no one has heard of won't hurt, but a school with a bad scholastic reputation should be avoided.

Specialization

Some colleges are only well known for one course of study. This means it may have a bland, or even negative, reputation for other majors, while brandishing a great name in the area of your interest. If you are confident that the one specialty is for you, these schools are a great choice. Just make sure you do not end up at one of them studying outside their specialty.

Accreditation

This may be more crucial than any other factor. Is your college actually qualified to provide you a genuine education? There are many levels of accreditation, and each determines whether the institution is a university or simply a college. It also factors into the availability of a major in the subject you want, because a school must be accredited for each major. Even though its administration may claim to offer a "course of study" in your chosen field, it may not have the accreditation needed to offer that field of study as a recognized major.

How to Evaluate a College's Reputation

Evaluating a school's reputation is more an art than science. Ask older people you know what they think of the college and what it is best known for - then research what they tell you to ensure the accuracy of those comments. Speak with the school's own representatives about your questions or concerns, but don't necessarily embrace all you are told because they have incentive to position the school as positively as possible. Additionally, simply try researching the college via an Internet search engine to see what intriguing information pops up.

A school's reputation is perhaps the most important factor to consider when weighing the impact of your college on your future. If an employer believes you attended one that likely did not adequately prepare you for the job under consideration, it doesn't much matter in that situation whether you loved it and received a great education - it could still reflect poorly on you. Instead, you want the name of your school to help garner instant respect and admiration.

Earning An MBA Degree Online - Is It A Good Idea?

Whether you get your degree online, or in a traditional college program, the MBA degree has become the entrance ticket to corporate life. Without a Master's in Business Administration it will be difficult for you to be taken seriously as a candidate for management jobs; for promotions; or even for challenging assignments. If you want to take your career to a higher level -- whether at your current company, or with another employer -- you should seriously consider getting your MBA.

The problem for most students, however, is how to add the time commitment of graduate school into their lives. Some will choose to return to school full-time, but for many a two year break from a corporate salary just isn't feasible. For these students, earning an MBA degree online has become an attractive option; but there are several questions you should ask yourself before you make the decision to do this.

Will an online MBA be accepted in the corporate world?

When distance learning first became popular, some of the schools that initially offered students the opportunity to study online were, let us say, not of the first-rank academically. The worst of them were simply degree mills, businesses willing to sell a diploma to any willing buyer. Even the more legitimate operations had yet to be accredited.

As time moved on, the world of online education attracted more established colleges and universities into the marketplace. Although less reputable operations still exist, it's now possible to earn an online MBA from some of the most prestigious businesses schools in the world. A degree from such a school, or indeed from any properly accredited school, will be accepted by employers without question. More to the point, your diploma will simply state that you have your MBA; neither it nor your transcript is likely to specify whether you studied online or not.

Will I miss out on networking opportunities?

Simply put, yes. Business school offers unparalleled access to others who, like you, plan to storm the gates of the corporate world. Your fellow classmates may include would-be entrepreneurs who will go on to found the next Google, FedEx, or Home Depot. And a campus environment allows for much easier and more flexible interactions than you can achieve online.

But that doesn't mean that you'll have no opportunities for networking in an online MBA program. Many of your courses will demand participation in discussion forums, interactive chat environments, or video conferencing. Even simple email groups offer the savvy student a chance to meet potential friends, collaborators, or partners. Networking online is slightly different than face-to-face, but it's still important to present yourself pleasantly and professionally; to give more than you receive; and to listen attentively to what you're being told.

Do I have the self-discipline to complete an online MBA program?

Whether you study on campus or online, business school is hard work; you should expect to put in long hours, both in class and studying independently. But without the discipline of class attendance and a regular schedule, online MBA students face more of a challenge in focusing on their studies. You have to be sure that you can put aside hobbies, a trip to the movies, or even a night on the couch watching the play offs, in order to make time for class assignments, essays, and studying for tests.

Particularly if you're continuing to work full-time during your college program, time management is a vital skill for success in business school. Distance learning lends itself well to flexible scheduling, since you can often choose to listen to lectures at a time that's convenient for you. But you do have to schedule the time to actually listen to them; the work still has to be completed.

If you can focus effectively on your studies, then you should have no hesitation about earning your MBA degree online. But the decision to earn an online college degree should not be made lightly.
